Baby Shower Game Ideas

Author: C. Dunn

Are you planning a baby shower? Here are some amusing games to
play that will be sure to add some fun to the party!

How Big is Your Belly?

Ask the guests to cut a piece of string to the length they think
the pregnant woman?s belly is in circumference. She will
then wrap each string around her belly, one at a time, to see
which piece is the closest. Whichever guest has the closest
measurement wins a prize.

Guess the Baby

Have guests bring baby pictures of themselves in advance. Every
guest will have to match the baby picture with the other guests.
Whoever gets the most correct, receives a prize.

?My Water Broke!?

Buy some plastic babies and freeze them in ice cubes. Place one
in each of the guests? drinks. The first person whose
plastic baby breaks out of the ice and floats to the top of the
glass, wins a prize. The winner has to yell, ?My water
broke!?

Don?t Say ?Cute?

Attach a few small safety pins to one large safety pin (you can
have the large safety pin be a name tag if everyone is not
already acquainted). Ask the guests to attach the large safety
pin to their shirt and let them know about the forbidden word,
i.e. ?cute? or ?baby? or anything
you want it to be. When a guest hears another guest say the
prohibited word, they get to take one of that guest?s
safety pins. A prize is given to the guest with the most safety
pins when the shower ends.

Messy Diapers

Buy some candy bars and melt each one into a disposable diaper.
Use some candy bars that are less common to jazz it up. Label
the diapers and ask the guests to guess which candy bar they
think is in the diaper. Allow them to use all their senses
(including taste) to determine which candy bar it is. Whoever
gets the most diapers correct, wins a prize. This is fun to
watch everyone sniff inside the diapers. Don?t forget a
camera!

Advice

Cut out footprints and have guests write down advice or
suggestions on them. Place them in a scrapbook for the
mother-to-be.

Bingo

Hand out a blank bingo card to all the guests. Have the guests
fill in what they think the mom-to-be will get for a present.
While she opens her gifts, guests mark off the item from their
bingo card. Whoever gets the 1st bingo, wins.

Word Scramble

Scramble up a list of baby words. The guest who unscrambles all
the words, wins a prize. Give them a time limit to jazz it up.

Nursery Rhyme Lines

Write down one line from a nursery rhyme. Have the guests guess
which nursery rhyme the line comes from. Whoever gets the most
answers correct, wins.

Baby Food Mix-Up

Remove the labels from a bunch of different baby food jars and
put numbers on the jars. Ask the guests to guess the type of
baby food by looking at the jar without opening it. Whoever gets
the most correct, wins a prize.

Planning A Baby Shower Party For Your New Baby

By Ann Marier

There seems to come a time in every family when there is a boom
of births. This also seems to happen with weddings, as it seems
that once you get one wedding invitation in the mail there are
at least six different ones to follow within the next year. I'm
not sure why this is, but it seems to be something that happens
in every family. When someone is getting married, you may want
to throw them a wedding shower, or if a baby is on the way, you
may want to go about planning a baby shower.

There may be nothing sweeter than planning a baby shower. Though
there is always some uncertainty that comes with pregnancy, by
the time you are planning a baby shower, you can be pretty
certain that the pregnancy is going to be a successful one. A
shower is often a promise of a new life, and a great way to
celebrate not only the baby, but the mom to be. Many moms look
forward to this special day, as it is one of the first
celebrations of their new child that they will have.

Planning a baby shower does not have to be that difficult. If
you are indeed planning a shower for someone, you probably know
them pretty well. You will know what they like and what they
don't like, and how much they might expect. If you are planning
a baby shower for somebody who is finicky and fickle, you may
want to consider handing the party over to someone else. This
will be up to you of course, but there's no sense in giving
yourself a heartache over something someone will not appreciate.
Planning a baby shower should be fun and light, and should be
something that you want to do with your whole heart.

When planning a baby shower there are a few things that you
should do. Games are always a hit, even if everybody whines when
they are announced. No one likes to admit that they love to play
these games, but everyone will have fun when they do. Also make
sure that you have light snacks and something healthy to drink
when planning a baby shower. Make sure you give your guests
plenty of notice, and make accommodations for out of town
guests. If someone could not attend, you should offer them your
address so that they may ship a package out ahead of time if
they choose to do so. This will add an extra special touch to
any baby shower.

The Best Baby Showers Start with the Best Baby Shower Invitations

Author: John Paterno

Hosting a baby shower for a favorite female in your life is one
of the best gifts that anyone can give to a mom-to-be. Bringing
friends and family of the expecting parents together to
celebrate the upcoming event while "showering" gifts upon the
pregnant one, assembling fine eats and beverages for all to
enjoy, and adorning the party room with decorations is a task
worthy of it's own party- and it all begins with the best baby
shower invitations.

The days of pre-packaged baby shower invitations that require
the necessary information be filled-in by hand are gone, as the
latest rage is having your baby shower invitations printed by a
professional company. By offering unique designs, eye-catching
fonts and colorful graphics (as well as the more classic
styles), printing companies can create an invitation that's as
original as your guest of honor and her upcoming new arrival!

"Jack and Jill" baby showers in which couples are invited to
attend are growing in popularity, as more and more
dads-in-training want to be a part of baby activities, and want
their friends to be there, too. An introductory title containing
the term "Jack and Jill", or a simple tag line at the bottom
(like "Couples Welcome!") will get your point across nicely.

Be sure to order a few extra invitations as keepsakes for the
new mom, anyone involved with the planning, and yourself. This
significant keepsake will make a great page in your scrapbook.

When to Order Baby Shower Invitations- A baby shower is
typically held 1 to 2 months before the baby's due date, and the
invitations should go out in the mail about three weeks before
the party date to give guests enough time to make the necessary
arrangements to attend. Leave yourself a week to address the
envelopes and another 10 days for your order to be processed,
shipped and arrive at your home. Ordering the invitations about
6 weeks before the shower date allows you plenty of time to
coordinate the event.

Other Tips for Hosting the Best Baby Shower- The best baby
showers are the ones in which guests leave with a smile on their
face. A few games and interesting activities that can serve as
insight for the soon to be mom are usually a lot of fun for
everyone. Have shower guests write some helpful guidance in an
"Advice Book", a guest book-type of souvenir for the guest of
honor that will be filled with information for surviving
parenthood. "Name that Baby Food!" is a favorite game, where all
guests are blindfolded and given a sample of the tasteless,
jarred food and have to guess what it is. Don't forget to pass
out baby shower favors as a thank-you and keepsake for this
festive day.

Scrapbooking: The Baby Gift with Heart

Author: Lisa A. Koosis

Diaper bags. Engraved silver picture frames. Cute little outfits
covered in teddy bears and puppies. These are the tried-and-true
classics when it comes to gifts for welcoming a baby into the
world, the things every Mom-To-Be needs or wants, and no baby
shower would be complete without them.

Still, there are times when you just want to give a gift that's
a little bit different, something that will enable you to add
your own personal touch. So if you're looking for a creative
idea for a baby gift, you might not have to look further than
your local crafts store.

The craft of scrapbooking has become a popular pastime over the
past few years, a way to commemorate special events in your own
personal way. For exactly that reason, scrapbooks make wonderful
gifts for many occasions -- and what better occasion to give a
gift of memory-safekeeping than the birth of a child?

When it comes to gift-giving, the great thing about scrapbooks
is the sheer variety of supplies and choices. For those who are
completely unfamiliar with the world of crafts, and who might
find giving such a gift daunting, there are pre-made kits that
include everything you need to start. Often those kits are
geared specifically to certain occasions, such as a new baby and
can even come in pink and blue.

For those looking to go the custom path, however, a scrapbooking
gift is rich in possibilities. Most major craft stores have a
minimum of one entire aisle and often more than one aisle
dedicated to scrapbook supplies and other assorted paper crafts.

If you've decided to purchase a scrapbook as a baby gift, you'll
want to make a trip to your local craft store. Although
scrapbooks are available for purchase at major greeting card
retailers, photo shops and even department stores, for
selection, your best bet will be a craft store or a retail store
that has a reasonable selection of craft products.

Scrapbooks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from
pocket-size to others the size and shape of larger, coffee-table
books, with a corresponding price range, so the amount you've
decided to spend on your gift will potentially be a factor.
Beyond that, the possibilities are still numerous -- color,
texture, binding style, personalization, etcetera.

Once you've chosen the scrapbook, then it's time to accessorize.
Accessories for scrapbooking are nearly limitless these days
with some creative thinking. There are standard accessories
available in the scrapbook and paper craft aisle of the store.

Essentials include the actual paper that will form the pages of
the scrapbook, and these days even choosing the paper can be an
adventure. Multi-colored packages of paper are available in
varying sizes. Some scrapbooks don't actually come with pages
included, so make sure, if your chosen scrapbook doesn't, to
match the size of the paper to the size of your album so that
the recipient will have pages to set directly into the
scrapbook.

You can also purchase packages of assorted smaller sizes and
shapes that make nice backgrounds and mats for individual
photographs and keepsakes. Many craft stores also sell specialty
papers that you can purchase by the sheet, mixing and matching
as you see fit. Many of the papers are unique and beautiful and
they vary in price.

Other essentials for the intended scrapbooker include stickers,
rubber stamps and stamp pads, and photo-safe markers. There are
also hole-punches in assorted shapes such as hearts and stars,
glitter pens, specialty scissors that create artistic edges on
paper, and assorted baubles for decoration, including specialty
trims and item tags. Of course, you won't want to forget the
basics such as glue, double-stick tape, and photo corners to
keep the photos in place without ruining them. And why not
include a few rolls of film, a disposable digital camera, or a
gift certificate to the local photo-processing lab?

There are also other possibilities for those wanting to spend a
little more money, such as software for designing scrapbook
pages on the home computer, and even digital cameras and photo
printers. The possibilities really are endless.

Finally, you'll want a basket, or a beautiful gift bag to make
the presentation of your gift as pleasing as the gift itself.

This is also something that would make a wonderful gift for the
sibling of a new baby, something interactive and fun, to
encourage their involvement in the preservation of precious
memories.

More than anything, this is a gift that's fun and functional and
shows that a whole lot of thought went into it. And isn't that
what gift-giving is really all about?
